When people learn that I am a Rotarian, I get asked a lot "what is Rotary?"  There is so much that Rotary is and does that it took me a while to realize that I cannot possibly explain everything to a person in one sitting without overwhelming them and making them run to the hills.

Since Rotary International is organized at the local, regional and international level, I choose to introduce people with what happens at the local club level first.  The conversation typically goes like this...

Rotary is about serving the needs of the community.  The Rotary motto is "Service Above Self" and our club does that by organizing various fundraising events and community service projects during the year that help make a positive difference in people’s lives.  We also have at least one international service project per year.  Each week we meet over lunch to plan our projects, listen to a guest speaker, network with each other and have a good time.  Rotary is a secular organization and is open to everyone.  Our members are mostly executives, business owners, professionals and retirees.  Rotary is so much more… Check out the websites and learn more at your own pace. If you are interested or curious to see us in action, be my guest at our next meeting or look for the club nearest you.  With over 34,000 clubs worldwide and 1.2 million Rotarians out there, you are sure to find a club and someone you know that is already a member.
