Tricks to get More out of Gmail

People and businesses regularly use Gmail these days. This makes sense, as it is easy to use, free, and Google makes good products. If you use Gmail, you are likely not using it to its full potential. Gmail has several tools that make it easy to keep your email tidy. We have outlined a few below and if you need instructions on how to implement these tools, follow the links.

Label your messages: Labeling your emails is an easy way to keep your inbox tidy. This feature allows you to add brightly colored labels for particular people or certain topics. For instance, you can create an “Urgent” label and apply it to messages that you should take care of immediately. Or, if you get a lot of email from your friends that you want to read later, you can create a blue label titled “friends.” This will permit you to scan your inbox and more effortlessly address the messages you need to.

Free up space with archiving: Is the number of emails in your inbox fast approaching the 5,000 mark? Then it might be time to archive your messages. This nifty feature from Google allows you to place messages that you do not need right now but don’t wish to delete to the “All Mail” folder. Unlike messages that you place in “Trash,” emails archived in “All Mail” don’t go away forever after 30 days.

Add a signature: Everyone should have an email signature, it saves so much time because you don’t have to type your name and contact info at the bottom of every email. After you have created a signature, Gmail will automatically drop it into the bottom of your emails.

Filter your incoming messages: Filtering is a very nifty feature of Gmail. It will automatically label, file, delete, or archive emails. You can choose the “Filter messages like this” option from Gmail’s “More” menu and specify what an email should include to have a certain action applied to it. For example, if you are looking to hire someone you may have any email that includes the words “resume” or “job” sent to a particular folder.
